fearless art

The best art is done while traveling fearlessly in and out of perfection.

Actually, I wouldn't know, but I suspect it's true. Besides, it sounded so wicked good when I made a similar comment today to Casey Klahn about his fearless pastels, I thought I'd get some additional mileage out of it here. Feel free to quote me; it's worth what you paid for it. Bargain at the price.

By the way, I think Casey is fearless when he slaps Turpenoid on Sennelier La Carte paper as a way to reclaim the tender stuff, but yikes! I'm still too chicken to try it.

What is it about art and its power to make grown people cry and fear?! Ha. I know, I know just what you mean.

Went to Casey Klahn's site and was dazzled. Nice.

Looking forward to seeing what you're up to, too.

Just got back from Maine. Happy to be back in the studio. Hope to post stuff soon.

How's things down there in the spreading Arpaio zone? Speaking of fear and loathing, Sherf Joe is on CNN so often, I'd like to think he's spending all his time in the make-up chair instead of making up bogus laws over in Maricopa.

The Colorist (Casey's blog) is always full of good info, and his landscapes are amazing.

My ears were burning, so I came to see why. Thanks for even looking at my blog.

I had to double-check the Turpenoid usage, and so when I Googled it I dug deep to find out that the rep from France was showing the exact method of using Turpenoid on La Carte.

Inquiring minds. I look forward to seeing what you show from Maine, Sam.

Things are very, very weird here in AZ. There has always been a disconnect between Tucson and the crazies up in Maricopa County. Arpaio is not well liked, but he sure can get his name in the news and loves it. I don't think there is any chance he'll ever be a political figure--he'd have to quite his job, take off his security blanket called 'the sidearm.' He'll never feel comfortable without the extra support. I'm so sickened by what is happening here that I try to pretend that I live somewhere else, like New Mexico. I know, there is trouble all over, but I'll keep dreaming.

I'm glad you're back too.

Casey, when I Googled for using Turpenoid for cleaning La Carte, I didn't get ze French rep. I got you (pastelblog), monsieur. Please give me the correct link, s'il vous plait. Merci.

Moi aussi, je le veux. Merci.

It was in some forum, too. Maybe Wet Canvas. I'll try to look it up.

Best to just take an old piece and give it a try! I find that I prefer removing pastel dust over washing it in, but every technique has it's purpose.

you are fearless in your own way Sam! sure glad that you are back and on blog. can't wait to see what you are up to in the studio.

Sam! You're back!

I think that perfection is overrated. It's like aiming at the wrong target. I can't tell you how many people I have met have given up (on art, on music, on writing, on golf ...) because they couldn't do it perfectly.

Some of the best art is imperfect.

But, fearlessness is EXCELLENT! Let's hear it for those who jump in the deep end, who try things before they allow themselves to wonder if they should, and who ACT instead of observe.

Yeah. I'll get out my pom poms for those kind of folks!
