Sweet Gracey was our chocolab. She died of bone cancer at Christmas 3 years ago. She was a rescue and had, as they say, issues. During the five years that she lived with us, she gifted me with patience and a more profound understanding of dogdom than I thought possible. She also led us to our next rescue, Garrett the Great, a dog of such excellent disposition, smarts and humor, he was clearly meant as a reward.
During the last year of her life,
she snoozed behind me in the studio while I painted this.

I have often thought of how one animal leads to the next one--and how it seems orchestrated somehow.

Sweet Gracey, seems almost like a person! Remarkable painting! She is v adorable.
After a really bad MS flare, my sister had to give up her dear Boxer, Suzie. There was no way she could work Suzie like she needed and Suzie started to act badly because she was bored. Boxer Rescue helped out big time and now Suzie has a sweet life with a very active couple. Hooray for the rescue programs. And for the people who adopt rescue dogs. Hooray for you, Sam!
Sweet Gracie found her match in you. The portrait you painted of Gracie definitely shows her in full glory. I am sure you still miss her.
