Lucky for us, all of the world's best Big Wave riders were already here, all jacked up and nowhere to go. Apparently, word got around that there were monster sets up here at Sunset. By 4 o'clock, they all (40 or so) were here with 5 PWCs (jet skis) and began tow-in surfing. For the next 3 hours, we got to watch the most amazing athletes do the most amazing things (vocabulary fails me here) and still live to tell about it. It was absolutely breath-taking.
Instead, though we'll probably never get to actually see the Quiksilver, we did get to watch the best surfers in the world do stuff that was too crazy even for the Eddie.

Sounds wonderful!! Love hearing about your Hawaii adventure, even if with just a tinge of envy.
Cracked me up. Word verif: unape
"Not this girl," I thought!
Thankfully, my current issue of Vanity Fair had an article about surfing and Quiksilver. I now understand your last three posts. We don't get many big wave riders here on the lake.
I love VF; it's a great mag! I used to subscribe, but now my sister does so I depend on sibling osmosis. Unless someone gives me a hot tip (like you). I'll go to Foodland in Pupukea tomorrow and get a copy.
great Hawaii update---I am jealous!
How fun to see such awesome talent! And in Hawaii! Sounds like it's a wonderful trip!
cow-abunga!
Wow! It must be awesome just to watch. I am jealous! I am glad to see you are enjoying you Hawaiian holiday this year.
Yes, Loriann. Watching-- we call it porch surfing. I'm so glad you're able to bed surf! As I watch these miraculous waves come in and go out, they remind me of breath. So do the whales I watch blow and breach and bubble as they corral their krill for breakfast. All of this reminds me of your miraculous breath. I'm thankful for all of it.
Hoooowheeeee- I also got the newest issue of VF and have trouble breathing just LOOKING at the photos.
How cool that you're there.
It's unimaginable to me that people choose to do this because they love it.
Porch surfing indeed, with a life vest.
