never say die

A few weeks ago, a door opened
and five good old dogs went through.
One of them was my dog Garrett's girlfriend, Sammy.
Here's the iPhone portrait I did of her.

He's not worried;
he's pretty sure they all went someplace good.

Aw, I have tears in my eyes. Yes, all good dogs go to heaven.

I like to think that "Watership Down" got it right--Hazel simply left his old body behind and kept going. Garrett's a smart dog and has great taste in women.

it's a beautiful portrait--I can tell this dog is happy! I KNOW the animals go to a good place, they are so much better than people.

You said it right Sam - this little thumb nail says it all (that's a contradiction in terms but you know what I mean). Sometimes no need to fuss with a work, just say it simply. I sometimes think the dogs have got it right and it's us who over complicate the whole business of living and dying.

Sammy in blue is great! It's been a rough year with doggy friends. Dogs don't live nearly long enough, in my opinion. They come in and take over your heart and before you know it, they are gone and you are left with crushed wishes of growing old together. It's enough to give anyone the blues!

Comic, poignant and elegaic--all at the same time...and on a phone, yet!
