the devil's footprint

Recently, the dog and I were walking along the river
late one afternoon in a remote area of the ranch.

Dusk was quickly falling,
and I knew we'd better head back down the canyon.
As we turned to go home,
something on the ground caught my eye.

Tracks.
Animal tracks, I thought.
I leaned over to look closely and took some pictures.
These were like no tracks I had ever seen before.
Not cow.
Nor deer, nor elk.
Not even mountain goat.

They gave me the creeps,
and we high-tailed it back home.

I can't find anything on Google,
and until someone can tell me otherwise,
they look like the devil's footprint.

The devil appears just as he likes. In this case, as a deer. What looks different to you is the dew claws at the rear, which most often don't impress except when the mud is deep.

Of course, the devil's hooves are organized backwards, so that you can't follow...

Now I have helped you and Signori with animal tracks. In her case, it was discovering her bear by LaConner.

Oh, jeez. nothin' but a dumb ol' deer? You ruined my scary story.
Oh well. Us dames would just be babes in the woods without you, the Great White Hunter, to tag them tracks.

Yup, dumb ole big buck it would appear.
Would have been exciting to see him.

I looked at these last night and had no idea--looked a bit like high-heeled pointed-toe boots. (I thought you should go out and make plaster casts.) I'm glad Casey explained it.

A big chupacabra with antlers wearing high heels?
No wonder I had the creeps.
