winter life

At this time of year,
when the days are cold and short
 and the shadows are long,
the ranch quietly sustains its own way of life.

Wildlife silently crosses the land.

The horses live in their own society.

And while some cows are dying,
 others are calving.

In the presence of Winter,
life goes on.

By February, we think life is over, but as you say it goes on more slowly, hidden, waiting, changing. And now the daylight only increases. Thank you.

Great photos and melancholy words to match the quiet beauty of winter. I am cheered by the hope of longer days.

Bob--
I, for one, love the slow silence of this time of year. Nature's hidden but constant change is sublime.

Kvan--
Thanks so much. If there is such a thing as cheerful melancholy, this season is it.
