Our good friend Joe Kennedy,
archeologist extraordinaire of all things Polynesian,
especially all things Hawaiian,
died in his sleep a month ago.
Considering Joe's larger-than-lifestyle,
my portrait is not exactly a likeness.
But it's close enough to remind me of him.
Besides, he'd be glad to see the pounds gone.

Very cool portrait and a touching remembrance of a friend. One of the hardest parts of losing someone is the sharp jolt of "oh" that comes after you've started to call him on the phone to tell him that something that you know he will love to hear about!
I have only tried one posthumous portrait...and I was so uptight to do a good job, I totally screwed it up. I wish I'd had more of your attitude--to paint the expression of the person, instead of the physical attributes of the person. You did a great job.
You did a great portrait of your friend. A lovely remembrance. And you are a good friend for helping to erase unwanted pounds.
Losing friends is like losing a chapter of your own book. Your story will never be the same.
Such a simple, touching portrait. Well done.
I love this.
If and when, please take about 20 pounds off of me, too.
