I've painted a lot of black women.
There were no models, so I depended on my imagination.
As these women appeared, I grew to love them like sistahs.
They were very good company.
There are several more of them, but
Cherry Pie here pushed to the front of the line.

I love it--the colors, the strokes, the subject!
whoa! you paint people "out of your head"? This is beautiful--I especially love the green behind her. Beautiful painting!
Can we see your other portraits too? I can see why this one was at the front of the line. I have a hard time taking my eyes off her. Great work, Sam!
Thanks so much for the compliments, everyone. I would never tell Cherry Pie to wait. Do you ever eat dessert first?
her dress matches the flavor of the pie. I hope her hands on her hips attitude doesn't mean it's SOUR cherry pie.
Great painting.
She's sassy! I'm not sure that she would let us get a piece of that pie without a slap on our hands. I had no idea that you did figures ... what else are you hiding over there?!
Hiding? A lifetime of painting. Like dessert, better you shouldn't eat more than one at once. Eat your vegetables.
(Guess where Cherry got that 'tude.)
LOVE it Sam!!!!!!! I can't wait to see the others!
O Yeah, I know her. Killer collards. I do mean that in a nice way. Not a Fuzzy Zoeller way.
Good thing. Or she smack you upside the head.
Sam, she's a great soul sister, I like her warmth, her sadness, her ever so slightly menacing air, I wouldn't mess with her. Great image - you have a rich, powerful, fertile imagination.
Hard enough from a model or a photo but from your imagination! She's marvelous. I love the almost 3D effect of how she pops out from that complimentary green background.
Careful she don't pop you one for getting near the pie before it cools.
Oh Roar! Word verification? nonart !
Good on you Sam - of course figures reside in our imaginations. We are looking at them all day long aren't we. This is a great painting of a great lady by the looks of her. Lots and lots of prescence. Desserts? I am on a (boo hoo) diet and the weight is like taking up permanent residence but if your mama offered me a slice of pie I would not like my wrists slapped by refusing!!
This lady's irresistable, Sam!
