Last weekend, the weather at the ranch was beautiful,
cold and clear.
The dog and I took a walk up the mountain.
How blithe.
As part of my continuing education, called Life, on our way back down the ranch road, my shoelace lassoed a spike on the cattle guard, and I crashed and burned. Did a total face plant down onto the metal bars. Somehow, my Kryptonite sunglasses protected my face. Mostly. I sat for a bit, resumed breathing and took inventory; there was enough blood for good drama, but that was all.
When I got back down to the house, I put my feet up and iced my face. To pass the time, I got out my iPhone and went into the Pollock Zone. That app is a remarkable anesthetic; does wonders for pain and plane rides. I did this wry self-portrait. It's the only image you'll ever see. Take my word for it, it's a fair rendition of the wreckage.
Considering I should be dead, my fat lip was a miracle.

Oooh, I'm sorry! I hate when Life comes at you like that! Heal well! BTW I love the Pollack-esque self-portrait!
Oh no!!
Well, we knew you'd injure yourself somehow before Hawaii...at least it's just temporary and cosmetic this time.
:)
The self-portrait is very evocative.
Oh No! Sorry to hear about face smash. Glad you're ok. Love the self portrait!

I really love the kind of art that springs from experience. Your Pollock self portrait looks like pain....but survival.
OUCH!!Looks like you've survived with your artful self in place! There's a time for everything, the saying goes, a time to face plant, a time to heal... Maybe that's not how the saying goes!
Oh no! Poor Sam! I hope your face is on the mend. Sounds like the app is a soother. Let's your feelings flow w/o need of materials.....love the self portrait.
3 oh no's, 1 oooh, 1 good grief, and an ouch. Thanks for the pity points, everyone. Then there's Celeste who loves bloody experiential art. That makes it a full-out pity party! Me, I'm feeling very lucky and good as new.
Glad to hear you're feeling better, Sam!
I thought Loriann was tough with her bloody fingers pastels. Now you're doing self portraits with blood gushing from your face. This stuff should be pay per view. Glad your mended.
I'm writing a reminder in my own book of Life: "Never pick a fight with a cattle guard."
Hope you heal well and quick!
Well, you are one smart dog to live in a place like this. I like the self-portrait; it looks a bit like Pluto.
Pretty much all better. Only hurts when I grin.
Pay-per-view wouldn't work. Horses and dogs don't carry wallets.
Pluto! Har har. Must be the ears.
So glad to hear you’re on the mend, almost better. I had a fat lower lip, myself, recently from a trip to my dentist. He over froze – I asked permission to eat – he said ok but be careful don’t bite your lower lip – but I did repeatedly and it bled and drooled down my chin which I could not feel, quite disgusting and so swollen I found it difficult to talk – that was the week of Halloween. It takes at least a week for swelling to diminish – glad you’re back to normal!
Anyway you got beautiful photos and a fabulous abstract expressionist self portrait for your misadventure!
Whoa. How did I miss this drama?
Now you'll have to endure all the bad jokes about how you got that way ;)
Merry Christmas and thanks for stopping by my blog and clicking the follow button.
