name that hue

I've always wondered about the people
who think up all those names for colors.
You know, like the names on paint chips
or nail polish
or pastels.
Are they poets or painters?
Cat people or dog people?
What do they wear?
Are their living rooms beige?
Do they do drugs?
What do they eat?
I think about them and their stories a lot.
As I look down at my toes, my mind wanders.
I mean, seriously...
just imagine the person who named this polish,

"Melon of Troy".

I think my toe-nail polish is "Fungoid of Swamp".

Oh-- I'm not wearing any...

It's a good color. Zeus would be proud. I'm guessing they do drugs but some folks are inherently out there:)

You have a very lovely foot. Te polish-namers are arty 30 somethings in the marketing department who treat color naming as if it is as important as neurosurgery..and the reason I know this is because ........I know this. Most are no-pet people because they work all the time at neurosurg...uh, marketing. :)

The color whatever it's named is just beautiful!

But I was also taken with how "graphic" the photo is. The black lines, the black flip flop, the placement of your foot. Quite arty, quite out there as well.

That is a job I have always wonder about too, but because I wanted it!

I love Kevin's comment and I think I have the same flip flops! As a kid I used to draw pictures of perfume bottles of various shapes and give the perfume names. Funny, as I don't really like perfume.

I'm proud of you boys for being the first to speak up. Not surprised you said such boy things.

I love those flip flops. They're Chacos that I bought at least 3 years ago. Luckily, they're built to last; Chacos no longer makes them. Idiots.

Naming colors (and perfume) is writing poetry. So is neurosurgery. Not so sure about marketing.

Loved this post. And you have an excellent point. Who are the people who 1. pick this year's colors and 2. pick the names for colors?

I think the color namers are probably wasted all the time. But that's just me.
