I'm surrounded by stacks of trashed paintings,
scrawled notes, muddy colors and high hopes.
Like this guy, I'm waiting for the next bright idea.
In other words, I'm stuck.

of amazed contempt, and I am convinced that basically
dogs think humans are nuts."

There aren't any muddy colors around you, that's for sure. Keep drawing. Something will come fairly quickly.
Oh dear Sam! We are all there at one time or another and lucky for you there are a few ways to get unstuck. If you love the studio best just go in and just be. Take out old unsatisfying paintings and feel free. Ideas will grow if you are there.
My favorite way is to go back to my favorite plein air locations-"my old friends" and just being there and painting is a release. Expect nothing and something always comes. Hang in there. Paint is the medicine.
Hang in there!
What a wonderful drawing. I suspect you have many great ideas--picking just one might be the problem.
Sitting for a spell is good for the soul.
I hear you! I've learned to just let it go and get busy doing other things through those periods. I bring my camera/phone/sketch pad. Soon enough, something good always comes along. Breathe.
Thanks! You've all proved I'm in the best of company.
I'm pulling out a mess of acrylics, a fresh sheet of BFK, and a fat brush.
Stand back!
Boy do I know 'stuck'. Just keep on working and you'll wear that sucker down! Sending good art vibes your way.
A good friend of mine told me that the time spent thinking about painting is as valuable as painting. This time that some refer to as "stuck" is like a gestation period (she explained) things are incubating. All that makes sense to me. :)
p.s. Love that drawing!
When I am stuck, I paint, draw, read at books, browse master paintings, keep painting and drawing - and then one day find I am stuffed full of ideas again. It comes and it goes....
