I planted three datura
next to the barberry bush this summer.
Now the barberry is, as they say,
totally tripped out.
totally tripped out.
These photos were taken today with my old iPhone 4
and shown as they are.
Yes, the camera really is that good,
and the bush really is this, well...
psychedelic.

Wow...Dude...I'm trippin'...
Dude.
Beautiful. Did you use a stabilizer app, or just the regular camera in the 4?
Casey,
The Camera+ app does have a stabilizer, but I didn't use it here. Except for a dramatic bolt of setting sun, the light was low, so I quickly stuck the phone into the middle of the bush. I'm too lazy to use a tripod; I've always just held my breath and tried to shoot between heartbeats.
Praise digital!
Amazing! I have never heard of this wild plant!Great photos.
HOLY COW.......what a bush!! This has to be the prettiest bush in the whole dang world!
Glad y'all like the pics! They're evidence of the magic all around us. You've all seen these pricker bushes before, as ubiquitous as phone poles back in the day. Berberis, a.k.a. barberry, grows around the world. As a little kid, I first learned that avoiding both poison ivy and pricker bushes was a crucial survival skill. And that dandelions don't last once you pick them.
Thanks for the Wikipedia link to Datura--I had never heard of it--sounds like it might come in handy if you break another bone. Is it the barberry that's so colorful? I've never seen anything like it; I imagine all kinds of things happening below ground.
Beautiful photos.
Wowee- incredible colors!
FABULOUS color!!
I just had to (gingerly) cut down one of my barberries that was out of control and threatening anyone passing by with its Edward Scissorhands. It's already growing back though! After seeing your great photos I'll have to take a good look at my remaining bush tomorrow, although I know it's not as brilliant as yours, or I would have noticed it across the yard!
Those plants are colorful. I wanna get me some of those. I wonder if they will grow here?
wow! I wish to have a beautiful bush like that.
