flood

Boulder is flooded.
Most of the Front Range is flooded.
People have evacuated and some have died.

It's all overwhelming,
but nothing matters to me as much as this.
My studio is flooded.

I looked down the basement stairs,
and all I could think of was Carol Marine's
burned-out studio in Texas.

OMG, how horrible! Your studio, not your birthday! Hope you can find some joy in your birthday. I wonder how I would react if, like Carol Marine, a fire roared through here. And in CA, it could happen.

And how do you get the water out of there? I guess first step is to wait for the rain to stop. Hang in there!

Happy Birthday!

I am so sorry--not a good way to celebrate a birthday. The photos are heart breaking.

I'm so sorry your basement flooded. I can feel your pain since my basement flooded two winters ago and we're still dealing with the aftermath. After having it all re-drywalled, etc., there still isn't any carpeting down there. Hang in there. Am thinking of you!

OMG--!! I am so sorry---this is terrible! (I understand why you thought of Carol Marine).
What a heckuva birthday. I can't imagine how you must be feeling. Hugs to you, Sam. Let us know what happens next. Lord...it looks like you could float away! Put on a life jacket!

Oh no. I didn't realize when I emailed you yesterday that it was your birthday AND your studio was flooded.

After you get rid of the water, make sure you watch out for mold.

I hope the rain has stopped and you're on your way to recovery both shingle-wise and flood-wise.

Oh no!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy birthday anyway!!! I've been wondering how the old barrio has fared... :(

Did your studio flood too? Or "just" the basement of the house? Hope you are OK.

Thanks, everyone. It's good to know you're there. Though I know of no one here who hasn't been directly impacted by this flood, we are the lucky ones...

As yet another Chinook helicopter full of mountain evacuees skims over our rooftop finally on their way down to safety, I sadly realize that in many cases they simply can never go home again. Ever. Because all canyon roads have been washed out, flights have been constant for the past 36 hours. There are thousands of people, whole towns, who need to get out before the freakish rain starts up again tonight and all day tomorrow, turning completely saturated soils into jelly.
It will test us all.

O Sam, I am so very sorry for what this has done.
Now you have the pain from this as well as
your physical pain. Hang in there Sam, I'll send some prayers you way.

Sam! I had a birthday this month, too. I have sometimes wondered what it would be like to lose the studio to a fire - your event is equivalent.

It will be a distant memory someday, but it will still hurt. I am praying for you and Coloradans.
