This is an oil-entrapment boom in the bayou, placed there by BP (British Petroleum) after last weekend's colossal explosion of one of their offshore drilling rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. In the wake of probably the worst man-made environmental disaster in our history (much worse than the Exxon-Valdez), a huge oil slick is making landfall. Louisiana has declared a state of emergency, but the spill will undoubtedly impact all of the Gulf states. The ramifications are enormous.

loriann signori said...: It's horrific, devastating ... and it's not an oil spill. It's an unchecked oil gush they can't (or haven't really tried) to stop! It's far worse than the Exxon Valdez! The only bright side (if you could call it that) is this is a topic on the east coast right now as big oil producers try to convince Congress that the Virginia coast is a perfect place for these off shore oil producers. That would be awful. Seems like they have to begin looking at long term ramifications and stop these stupid bandaid solutions. That goes the same for nuclear power.
