hot rocks

These rocks sit on a sandstone table
on the deck up at the ranch.
They were all collected within a couple of square miles of the house. Click on them a couple of times to take a closer look. Seems some of them were pressed into layers by the weight of the world and some of them got blown out of a volcano.
On these hot days, I can relate to both.

All the colors and textures
add to the mysteries of our planet
and it's creation.

One volcano, covering his mouth with a napkin, says to another volcano, "Er, ahem, hack, hack, excuse me! I have a shell stuck in my throat!" Burp!

I love the textures and tales of geologic history here! Nice! Your collection?

Whenever we walk up the canyon, we find more great rocks. Usually the pack gets too heavy to stand up, or our pockets get so full our pants hang down to our knees. In either case, sort of a Quasimodo effect.

Every year I go to Nova Scotia and bring home about 200 lbs of rocks in my trunk to place in the garden. Not that there is a shortage here, as we are right along the coast and have plenty. But, yours look volcanic and pressed into layers just like up there. Fantastic landscape.

Love the rocks..I too confess to collecting rocks. I have my share from the Nova Scotia beaches and sea glass from Washington. Finding is fun.
