Does it count as plein air if you're sitting at your desk
looking out the window?
Seems there wasn't near enough suffering involved.

I have done a couple of these. They count, but you don't get the training for plein airing. Another cheat I do is to go around the property. If I forget something, I go get it from the studio. DOH!
I think it counts, but who's counting? If you avoided heat stroke, that's pretty good. Avoided snake or bug bites, that's great. Avoided the discomforts of the great outdoors when it's not being hospitable, you are the smartdog and you get an extra A, too.
The shape of the sky is compelling and the bulk of the hill nicely modeled. Any day painting is a good day! Even better when it turns out well.
Of course it counts. Suffering is overrated.
But this painting isn't. It's so fine.
Casey,
Cheating, eh? I think it's all about seating.
Kvan,
Can't count; never could. As for avoidance of snakes and bugs, I thankfully didn't take the time to take a picture of that bull snake, and as you'll see, the bugs (bees) did get me.
Bonnie,
Thanks so much. Btw, glad to see this icon of your painting. You know I respect toes, but your art deserves some space, too.
Nah, this isn't cheating. You've got a great view! There is something very real about the top of the hill/mountain at the cleft. Really cool.
Views from one's window are poetic.
In spite of a faint suggestion of guilt at not suffering the elements first hand, this is a really lovely painting, impressive!
You opened the window while painting this and a bee flew in and stung you? Congratulations, this can officially be called a plein air piece!
Marcia,
I was too comfortable to feel any guilt.
Don,
I was feeling too comfortable, which is undoubtedly why that buzzmo nailed me the minute I stepped outside.
Not sure if it counts.
But it sounds like the bee wanted to make sure you were suffering.
LOL! I say it counts. I mean you were looking at plein air while you were doing this. And you were saved the potential hazards (like bee stings) of actually being outside.
Wonderful painting.
Yes, it does. Just because there's glass in between doesn't mean you can't assess the color and value of the landscape.
Good painting.
Well, it definitely counted for me, or I wouldn't have washed the window in the first place. The bee sting doubled my score.
absolutely! and you did a great job of it. I love your choice to go vertical
It counts Sam. Plein air is a state of mind..the suffering, well that's just an extra bonus.
Absolutely! I think.
I envy your view out the window! Beautiful piece.
