First, in a move which rivals Scarlett O'Hara's "I'll think about it tomorrow...", I'm reposting my painting of Howl (the joyous beagle) so he can maintain his fame...
In the meantime, another wildfire is burning west of Boulder. Unlike the last fire 10 miles west of town, this one is burning on the edge of the city. Slurry bombers (my heros!) are dropping retardant to knock the fire down, and backfires have been set which may cause power outages for the rest of the day, so most downtown businesses are closing. I assume we'll be cut off soon, so I'm posting this while I can.
What do I think? Like Old Man Truman of Mt. St. Helens, I ain't leavin'! For now...

I love that painting...what a happy looking dog from such an interesting vantage point. Hoping for the best...that all the fires will be extinguished!
Great painting Sam. I've got nothing creative to say about your situation. best of luck is all I can do.
Thanks to everyone who gave "Howl" his propers. As I said yesterday, I loved painting him. I don't think for a minute that any of us wind up making art exactly as we intended. This time it was the hound who took over and made it a portrait of joy. What a guy!
There is always room for a second opportunity to honor the beagle. Love the sound of a beagle hot on a rabbit track. The way the sound echo's through the woods, far away and then closer and closer. Cool.
You really nailed the howl and the attitude of this guy.
Great pose, how did you get him to hold still, arf, arf?
Listen, I hope the fire is leaving you alone, the power is still on and no evacuation orders have been issued for you. Be safe, gather your paintings and valuables and prepare to haul a--!
At a certain point, you can't take it with you. Just some cash and the passport. For now, I think the fire's been whupped.
Howl's photograph didn't budge while I painted from it. Good dog.
That beagle is spectacular! I can hear the howling all the way over here! It is joyful and makes me happy.
Good luck with the fires. I can't even imagine what that must be like.
Nice to see the painting up here.
Dude, I almost STOLE that same photo for my blog!
Howl! I just love it!!! We had a Basset, Buttercup, who just loved to sing!
