dream come true

Today is my birthday,
and I woke up early to my dream coming true.
Rainreal live rain!
Lots of it.
Bayou-busting, swamp-flushing, frog-strangling
rain,
the stuff that made man build boats.
It's a beautiful thing.
Because a cool and rainy day is just what I'd wished for,
I'm choosing to take it personally.
You're welcome.

For openers, we went to Lucile's for breakfast.
Smoked eggs, trout Pontchartrain and grits.
Laissez les bontemps rouler, etc.

Happy birthday, everyone...
whenever it is.

rain

When the rain finally came back,
everybody smiled.

Still are.

rainfall

I could spend another forever on this,
but I've wrung this one dry.
Found out what I wanted to know.
Rain falls and moves on.
So should I.

spring into summer

Sweet rain falls.

And suddenly,
before you even get the wheelbarrow out of the shed,

there are flowers.

violets

It doesn't rain here anymore,
so my fantasy of a spring rainstorm will have to do.
Like hopeful harbingers, violets come up and bloom anyway.
The dry heat intensifies their sweet scent.

My grandmother loved violets;
I can hear her saying,
"Don't give up."

rain?

A tenth of an inch fell out of the sky this morning.
We'll take it.
By 11 am, the sun was blazing.

Hardly time to open the umbrella.

help

Sometimes, help comes when you need it.
Or more likely, when you need help,
you knows it when you sees it.

Our species typically expects it to fall out of the sky.
One way or the other, it often does.

We were already pretty sure that slurry bombers are heros.

Now we think they're miracle workers.

This rain didn't stop the fire, but I'm sure it slowed it down.
It washed the air and gave everyone a break.
It felt so good.
