caballo blanco

Update:

First I painted and posted this, then the news came out.

I thought I should change the title.

 Boulder ultra-runner Micah True,
a.k.a. Caballo Blanco,
 was last seen on Tuesday
at the Gila Wilderness Lodge in Gila, New Mexico.
The best-selling book, "Born to Run", recounts
Micah's time running the Copper Canyon in Mexico
with the Tarahumara Indians.
Four days later, there still is no sign of him.
The search continues.

frank

Remember when I said,
"Frankly, I'd rather be painting."?

Meet Frank.

For now, I'm painting.
Ommmmm.

frustration

I need help.

All of the "paintings" I've done on my iPhone
using my Pollock app are stored on iPhoto on my Mac.
For that matter, so are all of my photos.
Many of them are already put together as slideshows.
I'd like to upload download overload those slideshows,
preferably onto the sidebar of my blog.
I know it must be at least as simple as I am.
I am not technologically gifted.
Hell, I'm not even technologically interested.
But I do loves my blog, your blog, all of our arty blogs.
If any of you can email assistance, boy do I need some.
I am lost in space.

Frankly, I'd rather be painting.

I just like the way it looks.

Yup, it's Friday.
Time to let this sleeping dog lie.

fair trade

Never miss the chance to make the virtual real.
Crossing over from cyberspace to face-to-face
can be extraordinary.
Last weekend, Katherine Van Schoonhoven and I
did just that. We met near Boulder,
shared a good meal in a restaurant with our husbands,
and continued a conversation we had already carried on
for three years on our blogs.
It was like meeting an old friend for the first time.

Katherine generously surprised me with a sketchbook,
like those she fills with the wonderful drawings
you can see on her blog.
As icing on the cake, she also included three cool pens.

I had also gotten her a little gift,
a fair-trade organic Chocolove
73% cocoa chocolate bar with currants & almonds.
Yum!

Sadly, I ate it before she ever got here.

My apologies, Katherine.

Hey, I got you some virtual daffodils.

best old friend

A friend emailed an excellent batch of dog pictures.
This one looks exactly like my old first best dog.
We traveled everywhere together.
He balanced stuff on his head, too.

Sorry to all my other dogs, but Al set a high standard.
He still makes us all try harder.

road trip

Seriously...

Who doesn't like a road trip?

twister

When the wind blows downslope here,
it blows so hard it can twist the sunset.

This same angry wind turned into
the tornados that recently killed so many people
1000 miles east of here on Leap Day.

Scary.

a dog's rainbow

Casey Klahn has posted an interesting pastel on The Colorist,
called "Dog, detail #1". We couldn't pass up the opportunity.

According to Psychology Today, Jay Neitz at the University of California, Santa Barbara, tested the color vision of dogs and came up with a nice chart.

We have a question...

What's psychology?

sleep-painting

Sometimes when I'm falling asleep I get the urge to paint
and wish I could quickly slap up some color.
That's when I'm likely to grab my iPhone and
 tap on the Pollock app.
Last night, I fell asleep twice while trying to
 polish off an apple.

I found this on my phone this morning.

impatience

Have you been impatient,
waiting for me to finally finish
 and post another painting?
I know I have.

But, damn, he's so cute!
Wasn't he worth waiting for?

just say no

When you leave a comment on this post
(which you now can do without difficulty),
you will see my freedom screed.

Like all great rebellions, this one was instigated by
a suggestion which rang too true to be ignored.

elvis

If you come into my back hall,
you'll see that you got here too late.

Actually, this retablo was the last gift
from my friend Rose before she died.
What an exit!

Who else but me would
get this Valentine?

and love it the best?

cello

Nancy Colella's new puppy is yellow.

So of course, her name's Limoncello.
It's a cute name for a dog,
 More Italian than nog,
And for short, they can just call her Cello.

painted rocks

I've been known to paint rocks.
Not paintings of rocks.
Rocks.

almost home

Tomorrow is Monday,
and it'll be time to get back for real.
But here's a couple of parting shots
of the unreal that is Hawaii.

hot n cold

Climate shock.
When we left Honolulu yesterday,
 Hawaii was, well, Hawaii.
Beautiful, benign and balmy.

By the time the plane landed,
Denver was buried by the biggest February snow in history.

First you play, and then you pay.
Mother Nature is a twisted sister.

beach biscuits

Hawaii is a place where women are lovely and loved. Wahines' impossibly firm and perky bums are affectionately called beach biscuits. Cheerfully emblazoned beach towels offer protection and comfort and men proudly proclaim their undying respect. It's another planet.

We fly home tomorrow night. When I went to the point for one more sunset tonight, I was reminded that there are lovely dogs waiting for us there. I found a tennis ball floating in the surf and will take it home for them.

P.S. Just heard it'll be snowing. Yikes.

kahuna

The day began with another rainbow. We've been on the beach all day watching the Pro being run in nearly perfect conditions. The big swell washed waves all the way up the beach to the house all last night and then became a day of pretty, glassy pipes. Amazing surfing. Five perfect 10.0s in a single day. Guys held together with stitches and duct tape, but giggling like schoolgirls and totally stoked. For sure, this is an event that'll be talked about for years. And tomorrow's yet another day.

Be sure to check out
<< paintingperceptions.com >>
(sorry I can't link it for you).
Niel Plotkin's interview with Alex Kanevsky is not be missed. In my estimation, Kanevsky is a kahuna.

swell

The offshore buoy, as in offshore the Aleutian Islands (it's a big ocean out there, folks, but to a big wave it's right next door), forecast a monster swell for today. It was right, and the swell arrived this morning with 30+ ft waves. A "lei" day was called. Way too big to run a safe (oxymoron) Pipeline Pro competition, but not too big for some good ol' fun for surf rats.

The photo shows a 6 ft surfer dropping into a, what would you say--30 ft wave? Then the wave explodes as it pile-drives him into the reef a foot below the surface. Woohoo...what fun!

Should anyone live long enough to collect the loot, the PipePro prize is $130,000. I know I promised no rainbows, but the end of a bigass one is right out there, fellas.

whoops

Yeah, it's great being able to post from the iPhone, but now it's also possible to
BUTT POST!

pipeline

We lucked out (I hope) This is Day3 of the Volcom Pipeline Pro. We got a superb camera position yesterday. We're heading back a mile down-beach to to the Banzai to see if the surf is too big to run heats today. Stay tuned...
