I sketched this portrait of Lucien Freud at forty
from a photo in VF.
What a guy.

very cool Sam...I like these sketches!
Very nice: the personality you have revealed.
Great Sketch.
Nice! Graphite creates an intimate connection between the artist, the subject, and the viewer. This sketch of Freud is a perfect example!
Nicely done. You make me want to return to the pencil and sketch pad!
Nice of you to say, Celeste. I like how your sketches are so yours, like in your own handwriting.
Thanks, Casey. Your words have weight.
Carol, you're good to say so. Thanks.
Katherine,
Drawing with graphite on the right paper is almost like channelling.
Andrea,
Never hesitate to draw. Our sketchbooks are a comfort.
Wonderful sketch. He was quite fascinating. He did a full length self portrait near the end of his life which is just stunning.
Happy Holidays.
What a guy is right--you'd think he might show a bit more skin. Is this a recent VF? I haven't unwrapped the last few.
I think I might know the person from your previous sketch--he shows up occasionally in my sketches, usually smiling, never speaking. Careful--you might be tuning in to my channel.
Hallie,
He did show more skin on the facing page (Feb 2012), painting half-bare in 2005. Dude.
